“Isn’t this place great?” I ask, you nod as a reply.
My mind is drawing blanks, so back to the old standby…

“So tell me where you’re from?
Tell me what do you do?”
I ask between my forkfuls of eggs and pancakes too.
The crowd is louder still,
And your eyes stare at your food
As you meekly give an answer, and I pretend to hear you.
Was it something I said, or something I didn’t?
We lit a flame last night, but tell me what spark lit it?

I’m racking my brain for something to pique your interest.
I hope it’s not too late for us to make some progress.

I’ve got a belly full now,
And you’ve barely touched your plate.
More minutes passed by than the number of words exchanged.
And with a half-hearted hug,
I ask when I can see you next.
You just smile politely,
Waiting for me to take the check.
